Douce de Boisgelin is a multidisciplinary practitioner working at the intersection of speculative design, interaction design, and information experience design. Her practice is driven by meticulous research, experimentation, and iterative prototyping, grounded in a belief that making is a form of thinking. Through hands-on exploration and collaboration with experts—often from scientific or engineering disciplines—she crafts work that provokes conversation, challenges perceptions, and translates complex ideas into tangible forms.
At the heart of her practice is a commitment to making the intangible tangible. By bridging the worlds of art and science, Douce seeks to create a dialogue between warm data (subjective, human-centered narratives) and cold data (objective, quantitative metrics). Her work aims to uncover new modalities of communication, fostering understanding and empathy through speculative design. Fiction serves as a universally resonant language in her practice, used to explore complex ideas and ignite imaginative possibilities.
Materiality plays a central role in Douce’s work, encompassing both physical and digital mediums. Her practice investigates how materials—whether tangible or virtual—can be harnessed to translate narratives and communicate ideas around themes such as Gaze and Surveillance, Genetics and Identity, and Labour in the Age of Digital Media. By blending material exploration with conceptual inquiry, Douce’s work invites audiences to engage deeply with the questions shaping our shared futures.
